With Flora Protect, we intentionally build in a protective buffer by including additional CFUs (colony forming units) above the label claim. Probiotics naturally experience some die-off over time — especially with heat — but this overage is designed to account for that.
Even in warmer conditions, you’re typically looking at about ~5% loss per week. Because of that built-in buffer, it would generally take closer to 7–10 days of sustained high heat exposure before the potency would drop below what’s listed on the label.
Probiotic products are shipped in insulated packaging to help protect the bacteria from prolonged heat exposure during transit. While the ice pack may thaw or the bottle may feel warm to the touch, the internal temperature of the package remains well below levels that would compromise the probiotic — specifically, conditions like 122°F sustained for 48+ hours.
It’s also helpful to keep in mind that probiotics are stable at room temperature and naturally live and thrive in environments around 98–100°F in the body.
Once received, we recommend storing it in a cool, dry place (refrigeration is perfectly fine as well) to maintain optimal stability moving forward.
